AMCP Nexus 2016 Draws 2,300 Managed Care Professionals for Education and Policy Discussions on Top Pharmacy and Health Care Issues
The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy today kicks off AMCP Nexus 2016 with a wide variety of educational sessions and policy discussions covering such hot topics as managing the specialty drug spend, treating opioid abuse and communicating off-label health care economic information.

The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy today kicks off AMCP Nexus 2016 with a wide variety of educational sessions and policy discussions covering such hot topics as managing the specialty drug spend, treating opioid abuse and communicating off-label health care economic information.
The conference, held Oct. 3-6 at the Gaylord National Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., will attract roughly 2,300 pharmacists, health care executives and other professionals involved in managing the pharmacy benefits of nearly 270 million Americans.
“Recent biopharmaceutical breakthroughs and dramatic increases in drug spend have made AMCP Nexus 2016 the fall’s premier health care conference,” said AMCP CEO Susan A. Cantrell, RPh, CAE. “Top thought leaders from across the country will share insights, strategies and actionable knowledge on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities affecting the health care system.”
The programming features more than 30 educational sessions in five tracks: (1) The Basics of Key Managed Care Pharmacy Topics; (2) Drugs, Diseases and the Managed Care Impact, (3) The Evolving Health Care Environment, (4) Current Aspects in Specialty Pharmacy Management, and (5) Putting Managed Care Pharmacy Research to Work.
In a nod to the venue’s location just outside of the Nation’s Capital, Nexus 2016 also will feature a General Session on the Democrats and Republicans’ competing visions for health care. The dueling keynote speakers are Chris Jennings, who served as senior advisor and coordinator of health reform in the Clinton and Obama White Houses; and Michael O. Leavitt, who served as President George W. Bush’s secretary of the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department, and as governor of Utah for three terms.
Nexus 2016 also features the AMCP Foundation 6th Annual Research Symposium titled “Balancing Access and Use of Opioid Therapy.” Presenting the keynote address is Christopher M. Jones, director of HHS Division of Science Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation.
In addition, Nexus 2016 includes 10 satellite symposia on diverse issues affecting health care; an Exchange hall with more than 40 exhibitors presenting the latest ideas, tools and advancements; a slate of Science & Innovation Theaters and Industry Workshops providing additional deep-dives into managed care pharmacy issues; and various programming designed specifically for student pharmacists.
