AMA SLAMS DRUGSTORE CLINICS FOR Rx "CONFLICTS OF INTEREST"

Organized medicine has called on federal and state regulators to investigate whether in-store pharmacy-chain health clinics are creating conflicts of interest for drug chain pharmacists.

The American Medical Association (AMA) adopted a resolution vowing to seek an investigation after several AMA doctors complained that the clinics "interfere with the traditional practice of medicine." Specifically, AMA wants investigators to determine whether drug chain?owned clinics engage in conflict of interest situations when they recommend that patients have their prescriptions filled on site. AMA also wants to prohibit arrangements under which Rx insurers lower or eliminate prescription copays for patients of the in-store clinics.
