CVS and Rite Aid Join RFID Industry Group
Accenture, a technology services company, has gotten executives from CVS and Rite Aid to join a group of industry leaders who will assess the potential of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. Accenture is serving as program manager for the group of pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Also, the Healthcare Distribution Management Association and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores are lending their support by providing their members with additional information and education-related opportunities for the program, according to Accenture.
The project will look at application of RFID in 3 areas:
- Improving the safety and security of the pharmaceutical chain
- Enhancing the process of pharmaceuticalreturns management
- Increasing the efficiency of distribution operations
