Prevention Is Target of Program
CVS' Health Connection division, Pfizer Health Solutions, and the Washington (DC) public school system have joined forces to initiate a pilot program?Stepping Up to the Plate?geared to curtail type 2 diabetes in children. The first phase focuses on screening and testing of African American children aged 10 to 18 in 14 DC schools. Children identified as at risk for the disease will be given nutritional advice, as well as a low-impact, goal-based exercise regimen. Pfizer and CVS will compile the data and findings from the program and make them available to schools and communities throughout the United States in mid 2004.
