Netflix has released a new American true-crime documentary centered on a pharmacist’s journey to seek justice for his son and others affected by the opioid crisis.
Netflix released today a new true crime documentary series centered on a pharmacist’s journey to seek justice for his son and others affected by the opioid crisis.
The Pharmacist follows the story of Dan Schneider, a small-town pharmacist from Poydras, Louisiana, who attempts to track the man who killed his son during a drug-related shooting in New Orleans, Louisiana.1
“At first, my mission was to get justice for my son, but I started noticing in the drug store a lot of kids around my son’s age coming in with high-powered opioid prescriptions for OxyContin,” said Schneider in the documentary’s trailer.2
Directed by Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst (Time: The Kalief Browder Story, and Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story), the 4-part series shows how a man channeled his grief into a crusade that helped deliver justice against the powerful figures behind the nation’s devastating opioid epidemic, according to Netflix.1
“I saw the opioid epidemic in its infancy—I’m not gonna let this junk continue to kill,” concluded Schneider in the trailer.
