Oncology Reimbursements Must Improve Patient Access, Provide for Overhead Costs

In an interview with Pharmacy Times, Kristin Ferguson, DNP, RN, OCN, outlined 4 principles for the reimbursement of oncology drugs, diagnostics, and biomarker testing that were recently released by the Association of Community Cancer Centers.

Ferguson said the principles are based on the premise that policymakers and payers should never implement proposed programs that hurt patient access to care. Furthermore, Ferguson discussed how reimbursements are crucial for the overhead costs involved in cancer care and how health systems can work with payers to effectively implement proposed reimbursement models.
