Long Term Care Pharmacy Outcomes and Cost

Pharmacy Times spoke with Russell Procopio, executive vice president of Long-Term Care Pharmacy, about a new study regarding long-term care outcomes and cost.

Pharmacy Times spoke with Russell Procopio, executive vice president of Long-Term Care Pharmacy, about a new study regarding long-term care outcomes and cost.

Procopio discussed how in the last study that his company launched, there is a mismatch between how CMS is defining long-term care and how the market is defining it in practice. Although some legislation is making its way through Congress to further define and clarify this subject, the long-term care pharmacist has to support the patient and their facilities as much as possible to get the clinical outcomes they desire.

When talking about retail and long-term care pharmacists, Procopio mentioned how patient accuity, patient care, patient safety, and operating risk are the main points that differentiate the 2.

Procopio also discussed the key findings from the Member Care study from this year and the overall value of the long-term care pharmacist.
