Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Named One of Nation's Top 100 Job Creators by Inc. Magazine

Article

Rapid growth, expanding specialty drug market propel hiring at nation's largest privately held specialty pharmacy.

Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, the nation’s largest privately held specialty pharmacy company servicing the needs of patients and physicians nationwide, is pleased to announce it has been selected as one of nation’s top 100 job creators by Inc. magazine in Inc.’s inaugural Hire Power Awards. The Hire Power Award winners are listed in the December/January issue of Inc., on newsstands now and online here.

The magazine selected winners from a variety of categories including healthcare, staffing, marketing, telecommunications, consulting and technology and reviewed hiring statistics from 2008 through 2011. Diplomat was credited with 233 jobs created in that time period, although the bulk of the firm’s hiring has been done since April 2010, when the Company announced plans to purchase its new headquarters, the former General Motors’ Great Lakes Technology Centre complex on Saginaw Street in Flint. Also announced at that time was a plan to add over 1,000 new jobs in life sciences in five years, which the Company remains on target to do.

Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy has been included on Inc. magazine’s list of the nation’s fastest-growing companies for the past four years. With 765 employees currently, the Company announced last month it had 100 jobs to fill, primarily in the areas of patient care coordination, order entry and customer service, clinical (LPNs and nursing), sales and account management, and technology jobs including programmer, quality analyst, data modeler and data architect. Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy CEO and co-founder Phil Hagerman, R.Ph., whose 37-year-old company has always been rooted in Genesee County, reiterated his commitment to growth, to Michigan and to Flint in particular.

“We want Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy to be the largest, most sought after employer in the Flint area,” said Mr. Hagerman. “The agreement announced this week by Exelixis that Diplomat will serve as the exclusive specialty pharmacy for the new FDA approved cancer drug COMETRIQ™ is the most recent example of how our company growth has been fueled in large part by developments in the specialty drug market. There are numerous cancer and other drugs intended to serve the seriously and chronically ill that are awaiting FDA approval. Biotech pharmaceutical companies are impressed with Diplomat’s longstanding high touch system of patient care and our internal team approach to disease-specific management programs. As we remain focused on our mission of keeping patients healthier, longer we anticipate continued, steady growth.”
