Could Suzetrigine Help Patients Avoid Opioid Refills After Knee Replacement?

Reducing opioid use after knee replacement matters only if patients can still manage their pain and recover well. In a retrospective evaluation presented at PAINWeek 2026, patients prescribed suzetrigine (Journavx) as part of a multimodal regimen were less likely to need an opioid refill by their 2-week follow-up and more likely to be opioid-free at 6 weeks than patients in a historical control group. Pain scores and measures of functional recovery were comparable between groups. The findings offer a signal for opioid stewardship, although the study cannot establish that suzetrigine caused the differences.
