Highlight: Alaskan Cruise from Seattle
The Primary Care Update from July 27-30, 2016, is taking place on a 7-night Alaska cruise that starts and finishes in Seattle.
Cruise through Glacier Bay and explore the state capital of Juneau. Make sure to look out for native wildlife along the way, like whales, seals, and the majestic bald eagle. Ketchikan is just one of the stops you’ll explore, and it’s home to the world’s largest collection of totem poles. If you’ve never travelled outside of the United States, this cruise will be your first time exploring the lands of our neighbors to the north, with a stop in Victoria.
This is a stress-free travel option that’s fun for the whole family. All-inclusive cruising means you can dine around the clock on chef-prepared delights inspired by flavors from around the world. Other amenities include pools and spas, casinos, movie theaters, several bars, and dance clubs.
Outside of the continuing education classes and networking opportunities, take a yoga class or enjoy an art exhibit. There’s always great evening entertainment and some pricey yet hard-to-ignore shopping.
If you can steal a few extra days in Seattle, don’t miss the iconic Space Needle and it’s neighboring attractions. Take a free stroll down to the Fremont troll and get a photo with this unique carving hidden under an overpass.
No trip to Seattle would be complete without some delectable local seafood. Everything from salmon, to oysters, to scallops can be yours raw or cooked to perfection.
First Runner Up: Hollywood
Take a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard for the American College of Clinical Pharmacology annual meeting from October 23-26, 2016.
Explore Mann’s Chinese Theater and look for your favorite celebrity on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. You can even grab a photo with the costumed performers dressed as your favorite pop culture icons. Catch a glimpse of the famous Hollywood sign and then take in some high-end shopping on Rodeo Drive.
Hollywood is home to several movie and television studios, so plan ahead and get tickets to be a live studio member for a show taping. See how the other half lives by taking one of the numerous Movie Star Home Tours. Make sure to have your camera ready, as you never know who you’ll drive by.
Since basketball season will be in full swing, sports fanatics can catch the Lakers or the Clippers at the Staples Center. You can enjoy a football game during the inaugural season of the newly relocated Los Angeles Rams.
If you just want to enjoy the California sun, head to Santa Monica Pier or Venice Beach.
Second Runner Up: Las Vegas
If you’re feeling lucky, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Midyear Clinical Meeting from December 4-8, 2016, in Las Vegas may be the winning option for you.
With its decadent spas, restaurants, and nightlife, as well as affordable endless buffets, outlet malls, and free shows, Vegas has something for everyone. If you’re looking to splurge, try the Canyon Ranch Spa Club at the Venetian Hotel, or the Rock Spa at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
If you’re a foodie who wants to find the best buffet in town, put on some loose-fitting pants and venture out to the Bacchanal at Caesar’s Palace or the Feast Buffet at Texas Station. Prefer quality over quantity? Get a great steak at Carnevino. Fans of the Food Network should get a reservation at Giada’s, Bobby Flays Mesa Grill, or Guy Fieri’s Las Vegas Kitchen and Bar.
After eating your fill, take in a mainstay show like Blue Man Group orDavid Copperfield. Or, grab a drink at Frankie’s Tiki Room, the Mandarin Bar, or the Minus 5 Ice Bar.
If you’re looking to pinch some pennies, take a stroll around the casinos and enjoy the free shows. Start at the Bellagio fountains and watch a volcano erupt at the Mirage. Watch pirates battle at Treasure Island and see the Fall of Atlantis at the Forum at Caesar’s. Enjoy wildlife at the Flamingo and be whisked back in time by street performers at Excalibur.
