APhA Publishes New Introductory Pharmacology Textbook

PRESS RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC December 02, 2013 — The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) published a concise, systematic introduction to the science of pharmacology for prepharmacy and pharmacy technician students.

In Understanding Drug Action: An Introduction to Pharmacology, author Peter J. Rice, PharmD, PhD, discusses pharmacology at a basic scientific level to build a framework of how drugs work. He supplements this discussion with information on some representative drugs that are used clinically. Rice is Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Colorado.

Each reference chapter includes knowledge objectives, a glossary of key terms, and review questions with answers provided in the back of the book. Many chapters include tables by drug class that list important drugs by brand and generic names and dosage forms. More than 170 illustrations supplement the text.

Understanding Drug Action: An Introduction to Pharmacology (ISBN 978-1-58212-112-3; softbound; 335 pages; $49.95 [$40 for APhA members]) may be ordered online, www.pharmacist.com/shop, or by phone, 800-878-0729. It will also be posted early next year on APhA’s online subscription product PharmacyLibrary, www.pharmacylibrary.com.
