FLORIDA PHARMACISTS GET OK TO PROVIDE IN-STORE FLU SHOTS

Florida pharmacists received a green light from state lawmakers to administer influenza shots to residents of the Sunshine State. Pharmacists in 44 other states already are authorized to provide this service.

Under the bill, pharmacists who want to participate must complete a 20-hour training course to be certified to administer the shots. Additionally, pharmacists will be required to follow guidelines established by a physician, but the physician does not have to be on the premises during the administration of the shots.

The legislation was supported by pharmacy chains in Florida. It was opposed, however, by the state’s medical association.
