CHAMOMILE/WARFARIN INTERACTION REPORTED

The Canadian Medical AssociationJournal recently reported a case inwhich an elderly woman who was takingwarfarin developed severe internalbleeding after drinking chamomile teaand using chamomile lotion. Warfarin isknown to interact with a number ofcommonly used herbal remedies suchas garlic, ginger, and gingko. This is, however,believed to be the first reportedcase of an interaction with chamomile.

Chamomile is used to relieve a numberof ailments such as toothache, sorethroat, digestive problems, and insomnia.

Creams and lotions are used to treatskin conditions such as insect bites,eczema, and psoriasis.
