Alaris Auto-ID

Cardinal Health (San Diego, Calif)recently introduced the Alaris Auto-IDmodule, an enhancement to the AlarisSystem "smart" intravenous (IV) pump.In order to address the specific requirementsfor IV-medication administration, the module provides bar-coding functionality, which provides an additionalcheck in the IV-medication verificationprocess. The system allows hospitalswith or without a wireless network orbar-coding system to benefit from theadded safety of bar coding for IV therapy, and it helps reduce IV-programmingerrors. The Alaris Auto-ID enables theinclusion of patient and clinician identificationin continuous quality improvementdata captured at the point of care.Hospitals with the Alaris Gateway arethen able to relay patient-specific infusionand alarms data to third-partyelectronic medication administrationrecords and other hospital informationsystems.
