RxEOB has launched a new version of MyDrug-Benefit. The company, a provider of consumer-directed pharmacy benefit software, said that the latest version will further allow consumers to control their prescription drug benefit costs. MyDrug-Benefit lets members view their prescription history, compare prices of cost-effective medication alternatives, verify prescriptions, and research drug information via a Web-based interface.

The newest version provides:

  • Enhanced therapeutic alternatives, which now include OTC drugs
  • A "refill too soon" tracking capability to prevent early refill costs incurred by drug stockpiling
  • Drug discount card changes reflecting the new transitional drug benefits offered by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
  • Enhanced security to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 regulations

"Unfortunately, many software programs merely provide information about the overall cost of a prescription drug without customizing the information to reflect what an individual will pay based on his or her insurer's prescription drug benefit. Armed with this customized information, health plan members frequently migrate to less expensive, but equally effective medications with lower copayments, generating sufficient savings for themselves and their health plans," explained Registered Pharmacist Robert Oscar, president of RxEOB.
