PDX Software Gets High Marks

Care Rx Disease Management Software from PDX Inc has proven successful for the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Center's Pharmaceutical Healthcare Clinic at the Jackson Medical Mall uses Care Rx.

As part of the University of Mississippi's disease management program, the Pharmaceutical Care Clinic provides an optimal venue for pharmaceutical outcome research. These clinics serve as model practice sites for pharmacy students or resident trainees, as well as for community pharmacists interested in expanding their practices to include collaborative drug-therapy management. Since its inception in 1998, the Care Rx systems have allowed the clinic's staff to promote total health care through a joint effort among the patient, the patient's physician, and the patient's pharmacist.

In its report on pharmaceutical care clinics, titled "An Innovation in Collaborative Medication Therapy Management," the University of Mississippi team claims that health care is in transition. Therefore, a need has been created for nonphysician involvement in patient care. The team recommends involving pharmacists in the overall context of medical care to meet this demand and to combat poor outcomes and increased health care costs."
