Today, we’re celebrating the work of Maddy Yamnitz, a pharmacy student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy. Yamnitz is also an intern at Saint Luke’s Health Systems of Kansas City, where she has been dedicated to helping patients throughout the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Yamnitz has also volunteered with COVID-19 testing while picking up extra hours at the hospital, putting in nearly 30 extra hours per week on multiple occasions. Yamnitz has also worked 2 rotations during this time, with the goal of educating and helping her own community in Jackson, Missouri.

According to Yamnitz’s boyfriend, Dalton Tripp, her persistence in improving the town’s COVID-19 protocols even led the fire chief to reach out and set up a meeting.

“Her hard work, courage, and love for her community has really shown why she is a true pharmacy hero,” Tripp said.

Pharmacy Times is celebrating American Pharmacists Month by honoring amazing pharmacists. Use the hashtag #ThankAPharmacist on social media to show us who you’re celebrating!
