When to Discuss Clinical Trials with Patients
Patricia Spears: I think clinical trials are really important for every patient that’s been diagnosed with cancer, and I think it’s never too early to talk to patients about clinical trials—that they are an option and they are out there. People do clinical trials for all different reasons. A lot of them are for altruism, you know, to move the field forward, and then others actually go to clinical trials as their next treatment choice, possibly to get a new medication. So, I think that in all spectrums of breast cancer, you should start talking about clinical trials at the beginning so that they’re always on the table as an option for patients.
