Article

Here are some sessions to watch for in our coverage at this year’s meeting.

Four years after they first launched the Summer Meetings in Minneapolis, Minn., the ASHP 2017 Summer Meeting and Exhibition is heading back.

According to conference planners, "we are excited to be heading back to where it all began for a unique and valuable professional development opportunity."

Pharmacy Times is on site covering the meeting and will bring you coverage all week. At this large gathering of clinical pharmacists, there will be plenty of opportunities to dive into a number of informative sessions covering everything from patient care to medication safety, and more. Here are just some of the sessions you'll be able to watch for in our coverage at this year’s meeting:

Joseph A. Oddis Colloquium: Ethical Dimensions of the Opioid Crisis. This session will address, from public-health and pharmacy-practice perspectives, 4 or more ethical dimensions of the nationwide epidemic of opioid abuse and misuse.

ISMP Top Medication Safety Issues for 2017. The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) works to identify the most prevalent medication safety issues and pinpoint effective strategies to reduce medication errors. Compiled data gathered from hospital medication error reports, risk assessments, consumer reports, and FDA collaboration have allowed ISMP to name the top medication classes involved in adverse events and this session will address those issues.

New Administration, New Congress. This session will serve as an in-depth examination of key policy issues surrounding health-system pharmacy.
