The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has partnered with iForumRx.org, a new interactive web-based community for ambulatory care pharmacy specialists, to produce a new line of recertification tools.

The APhA’s Ambulatory Care Recertification Program aims to be centered around podcasts, panel discussions, and polls, to provide the latest evidence-based ambulatory care content. This format will allow board certified pharmacists to earn recertification credits without spending large amounts of time away from the office, APhA officials said.

According to Daniel Zlott, PharmD, BCOP, APhA vice president of Professional Education Resources, the partnership is a way to provide current primary literature for busy practitioners. “The iForumRx.org contributors are board-certified ambulatory care pharmacists who work in the trenches every day and provide insightful comments about how the latest research findings should be applied in practice. The succinct literature summaries and podcasts are easily digestible ways to stay on top of what is important to the care of patients in ambulatory care and community pharmacy settings,” Zlott said, in a prepared statement.

A professional development provider for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification in ambulatory care, APhA produces various continuing education programs for ambulatory care-certified pharmacists to earn the required 100 hours of BPS recertification credit towards the renewal of their BCACP certification.

In his satement, Zlott added, “APhA is looking to make the board recertification process more convenient for certified pharmacists by breaking sessions down into smaller pieces so that you don’t have to devote hours of uninterrupted time to maintaining your certification[…] We know pharmacists are busy, and we’re striving to make maintaining or preparing for board certification fit into their schedules.”
