Sears Holdings Corp. has named Alasdair James president and chief member officer for Kmart, the company announced today.

In a company statement, Sears Holdings Chairman and CEO Edward S. Lampert said James “will be responsible for the Kmart strategy, its performance, and its continued transformation as an integrated retail format.”

In this role, James will also be responsible for driving the Kmart format strategy, managing the Kmart P&L, and aligning merchandise, marketing, pricing and selling with “the preferences of Shop Your Way members who shop at Kmart,” Lampert added.

James most recently served as the commercial director for the global business unit of Tesco, where he has held positions of increasing responsibility since 2007. In addition to his Tesco tenure, James has held roles with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and PepsiCo.

Sears Holdings noted that James’s experience running multi-site operations within the retail, pharma, food manufacturing, and consumer packaged goods sectors strongly fits the member-focused role for Kmart.
