Pharmacist's Tip Leads to Prescription Fraud Arrests

Three people have been arrested for attempting to fill fraudulent prescriptions, thanks to a local pharmacist’s tip to law enforcement, The Times Herald reported. The suspects were apprehended after the Michigan pharmacist alerted authorities to suspicious prescriptions coming into the pharmacy.

According to the St. Clair County sheriff department, the pharmacist requested police come to the pharmacy after identifying 2 suspicious prescriptions from the same doctor Saturday and Sunday night. The prescriptions were for 800 milligrams of Ibuprofen and codeine-containing cough syrup. The pharmacist told deputies that he had contacted the doctor, who told him the prescriptions were fake.

Police apprehended 1 suspect at the pharmacy counter, and 2 others in the Walmart parking lot. Deputies seized Ibuprofen, promethazine with codeine syrup, alprazolam and Percocet pills, a laptop, printer, fake prescriptions, and cash. The suspects are believed to have committed the same fraud throughout the state.
