PRESS RELEASE

ASHP recently released the latest offering from its Professional Certificate line, the Advanced Sterile Product Preparation Training and Certificate Program. The online continuing education program was developed for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who manage personnel and facilities involved in compounding sterile preparations.

Available for individual and institutional purchase, the Advanced Sterile Product Preparation Training and Certificate Program features nine modules that emphasize the many considerations required when developing competent personnel and designing appropriate environments and facilities for compliant sterile product preparation. The curriculum covers the elements of essential cleanroom design, standards for selecting ingredients and other products used in sterile product preparation, and regulatory and quality control guidance, including the Drug Quality and Security Act as well as USP Chapter <797>. The course also explores creating a culture that supports safe and compliant sterile preparation, USP Chapter <800> guidelines and procedures for handling hazardous drugs, and the challenges associated with managing outsourced compounding providers or compounding activities in a multisite system.

Participants will earn up to 23 hours of pharmacy continuing education credits. To earn the professional certificate in either medium- or high-risk sterile product preparation, participants must complete all nine modules and submit documentation demonstrating skills covered in the program.

ASHP Professional Certificate Programs are self-guided, online continuing education programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Each program offers at least 15 hours of continuing education credit that can be earned upon completion of individual modules. Participants must complete all of the modules in a program as well as practice-based exercises to be eligible for an ASHP professional certificate.
