LEAP Awards 2017: Best Practices in Pharmacy

Several people were honored this week at Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s Leadership Excellence Awards in Pharmacy, or LEAP, ceremony.

Several people gathered at Charley's Steakhouse in Orlando last night and were honored at Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s Leadership Excellence Awards in Pharmacy, or LEAP, ceremony.

The awards recognize innovations in pharmacy, with a goal in mind to better service communities, according to speakers at the event.

The winners were:

GOLD Winner: Adventist Health Bakersfield, Eric Myers, PharmD, BCPS, Adrian Gonzales, PharmD, BCPS, Brittany Andruszko, PharmD, Brandi Hamilton, PharmD, MS; Pharmacy Driven Antimicrobial Stewardship on the County Level: The Next Step for Stewardship? This innovative intervention took aim at the problem of multidrug resistance and specifically targeted Clostridium difficile infections through stewardship interventions. The intervention led to a significant downward trend in fluoroquinolone use and improved antimicrobial susceptibilities.

SILVER: Boston Children’s Hospital, Margaret K. Murphy, PharmD, BCNSP, Kathleen M. Gura, PharmD, BCNSP, FASHP, FPPAG, FASPEN; Pharmacist Reconciliation of Pediatric Home Parenteral Nutrition Records: A Model to Improve Compounding Accuracy and Reduce Errors. This model led to a significant decrease in home parenteral nutrition (HPN) errors by increasing communication between the HPN pharmacists and home infusion companies.
