Generic Anxiety, Allergy Drug Launched in US

Elite Pharmaceuticals has launched hydroxyzine hydrochloride, a generic version of Atarax and Vistaril, in 3 tablet strengths.

Hydroxyzine is indicated to relieve anxiety and tension, as well as manage pruritus due to certain allergic conditions.

Through a previously signed license agreement, Epic Pharma will manufacture, package, and distribute the immediate-release drug in 10-mg, 25-mg, and 50-mg tablets.

According to IMS Health, US sales for hydroxyzine tablets were approximately $40 million in a 12-month period ending June 30, 2014.
