As part of its grand re-opening celebration, Econofoods is presenting donations to community partners Meeker County Emergency Food Shelf, Zion Lutheran Church, and Lake Ripley Elementary School.

PRESS RELEASE Grand Rapids, Mich., March 14, 2016 — Econofoods, located at 951 E. Frontage Road, Litchfield, MN, will present donations on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. to community partners Meeker County Emergency Food Shelf, Zion Lutheran Church, and Lake Ripley Elementary School. To continue its long history of supporting community partners, these donations are part of Econofoods’ grand re-opening celebration.

Lake Ripley Elementary School and Zion Lutheran Church will each receive $1,000 through Econofoods’ Support Our Schools program. As funding for educational programs continues to be a challenge for schools, Support Our Schools is a receipt-based program that helps nonprofit places of education and worship to purchase equipment, supplies and services for the purpose of teaching.

“With these two donations, Econofoods Litchfield has now donated $113,000 through the Support Our Schools program to community organizations,” said Dave Dougherty, Store Director. “We are honored to be able to support education efforts in our community in this way.”

Econofoods will also be donating 30 Easter meals to Meeker County Emergency Food Shelf. Econofoods regularly donates product to Meeker to help feed the needy in Litchfield.

Econofoods’ other community partnerships include being an annual sponsor of Watercade in July and hosting Salvation Army bell ringers every holiday season for their annual Red Kettle campaign. In 2015, bell ringers were invited to come out of the cold to ring inside stores, and $8,853.64 was raised at Econofoods for the Salvation Army thanks to the generosity of customers.

Econofoods also is collecting donations for Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota March 4 through 13. This is the first year of a long-term partnership between the two organizations. Customers have the opportunity via any checkout lane to donate $1, $5 or $10; in return, they will receive four coupons toward Our Family® brand products. One hundred percent of funds raised will go to Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota.

Grand opening events have been taking place at Econofoods since March 6. Approximately $700,000 was invested in the recent remodel, including new décor, cases, and store flow. A wall of values was added, and an expanded assortment of products is featured, including more natural and organic products.
