Indication: Cozaar is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults and children over 6 years of age.

Insight:

  • Dosing: Usual adult dose 50 mg once daily.
  • Dosage forms: Tablets 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg.
  • Adverse events: Most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥2% and greater than placebo) are dizziness, upper respiratory infection, nasal congestion, and back pain.
  • Mechanism of action: Losartan and its principal active metabolite block the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues
