With the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices sidelined by legal challenges and reduced federal recommendations, professional societies have stepped in to fill the gap ahead of the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published updated policy statements on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19 prevention on September 2, 2026, following its earlier influenza guidance, while the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released coordinated recommendations the same day for pregnant and postpartum patients.^1-3
