7 Scholarship Programs for Pharmacy Students

Pharmacy school tuition is expensive.

Pharmacy school tuition is expensive. Tack on housing, living expenses, student organization yearly dues, licensing fees, and transportation, and most pharmacy students are looking at some hefty payments.

Schools generally offer some form of financial aid, but chances are, it’s not enough to cover tuition. To help fill in the gap, here are several scholarship programs available to pharmacy students:

1. Tylenol Future Care Scholarships

The Tylenol Future Care Scholarships are for undergraduate and graduate students in medicine and health care. They recognize academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.

To apply, you must be a US resident; enrolled in a health care-related field at an accredited college or university, graduate school or vocational/technical school; and have 1 year remaining in your program. The program awards 60 scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000 each year.

2. Express Scripts Scholars

The Express Scripts Scholars program supports students with diverse interests who pursue dual degrees. The foundation gives special consideration to low socioeconomic status students, as well as those who are underrepresented minorities.

The program awards 4 $10,000 scholarships that can be used for tuition, fees, books, or other attendance costs.

3. APhA Foundation Student Scholarship Program

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation Student Scholarship Program supports students who invest time in their school’s APhA-ASP chapter to help shape the profession. To qualify, you must demonstrate strong academic performance, involvement in school and community activities, and potential to become a leader in the profession.

The program awards 14 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $1500.

4. ASHP Student Leadership Awards

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Awards program supports students who have demonstrated leadership ability and have an interest in pharmacy practice in health systems. To be eligible, you must be a pharmacy student in your second, third, or fourth year of the program.

The award consists of a plaque, an ASHP drug information reference library, and a $2000 cash award provided by the ASHP Research and Education Foundation through the Walter Jones Memorial Pharmacy Student Financial Aid Fund.

5. RESPy Award

Pharmacy Times sponsors this award, which honors outstanding student pharmacists who display exemplary behavior and great potential as community pharmacist candidates. To qualify, you must have a record of voluntary public service activities, a high level of professional/public health-related activities outside the classroom, and a demonstrated effort to advance the profession of pharmacy.

To be considered, your pharmacy school dean must nominate you. The award consists of a full-page article in Pharmacy Times, a $1000 cash award, a hand-crafted mortar and pestle, and an invitation to the Walmart pharmacy intern program.

6. AFPE First Year Graduate School Fellowships

The American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) First Year Graduate School Fellowships are targeted for students who are members of Kappa Epsilon, Phi Lambda Sigma, and Rho Chi who plan to pursue a PhD in pharmaceutical science. To be eligible, you must be a pharmacy student in your final year who is member of one of the aforementioned organizations, as well as plan to pursue full-time graduate (PhD) study in the year the award is made.

The award consists of $7500 that may be used for any purpose decided by the awardee and faculty sponsor.

7. NCPA Foundation Scholarships

The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Foundation offers several scholarships to support students who display strong leadership qualities and high academic performance. To be eligible, you must be an NCPA student member.

Presidential Scholarships

For students who demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities and scholastic success. Up to 25 awarded each year.

J.C. & Rheba Cobb Memorial Scholarship

For students who demonstrated an interest in government affairs. Up to 1 awarded each year.

Neil Pruitt Sr. Memorial Scholarship

For students who demonstrated interest in entrepreneurism. Up to 1 awarded each year.

Willard B. Simmons Memorial Scholarship

For students who demonstrated interest independent pharmacy management. Up to 1 awarded each year.
