Supplement Works for Diabetes Patients
The results of a study published recently in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that the joint supplement CosaminDS (Nutramax Laboratories Inc) had no negative effects on the glucose levels of patients with diabetes. The study authors noted that the aging US population is more prone to joint problems than ever before. Diabetes patients often have joint problems, and a majority of people with diabetes cannot tolerate prescription and OTC nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and acetaminophen.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial, 38 patients with diabetes and arthritic conditions were enrolled at the Wilford Hall medical center Diabetes Care Clinic at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Over a 90-day period, glycemic control was strictly monitored. The findings showed no significant difference between the placebo group and the group taking 3 capsules of CosaminDS daily (the initial recommended dosage on the supplement?s label).
?This is very good news for diabetic patients seeking a safe means to improve joint function and reduce joint pain,? said Dr. Robert Henderson, president and chief executive officer of Nutramax Laboratories Inc.
