A Fish a Day Keeps the Cardiologist Away
Consumption of fish may lower women?s risk of developing or dying from coronary heart disease (CHD), according to a large study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The study involved 84,688 female nurses who were free of cardiovascular disease at baseline in 1980 and were followed for 16 years. Compared with women who rarely ate fish, the risk for CHD was reduced by:
? 21% among women who ate fish 1 to 3 times a month
? 29% among women who ate fish once a week
? 31% among women who ate fish 2 to 4 times a week
? 34% among women who ate fish ?5 times a week
