Pill Phone
Reminds Patients
to Take Meds
VOCEL's (San Diego, CA)
Pill Phone is a patented
health care tool for medication
management that has
been approved by the FDA.
The phone enables wireless
customers to personalize
and schedule audio
and visual alerts reminding
them to take their prescribed
medications at the
right time. The Pill Phone
also includes content from
The Pill Book, a guide to
>1800 commonly prescribed and OTC
drugs. Individuals can easily access
critical information on indications, dosing,
side effects, drug interactions, and
view images to identify specific pills.
The innovative tool is useful for adults
and children who are taking multiple
medications for chronic conditions. With
the Pill Phone, users download the application
to their mobile phones. Using
their phone number and personal identification
number, individuals can safely
set up their accounts and access their
medication information on a secure Web
site. Responses to dosing reminders are
recorded in a medication administration
record that can be viewed online by
subscribers or designated caregivers to
monitor adherence to dosing regimens.
An optional feature notifies parents or
caregivers if the patient fails to respond to
a medication reminder. Parents or caregivers
can receive an e-mail or text message
if the patient misses a dose or does not
respond to a reminder. For more information,

MethCheck Rx Keeps Pharmacies Compliant
Appriss Inc's (Louisville, KY)
MethCheck
Rx provides a single point of contact
for managing compliance, while tracking
pseudoephedrine (PSE) purchase limits,
box limits, pill counts, and acceptable
forms of identification. The solution
communicates with state electronic
PSE repositories, allowing pharmacies
to stay compliant without maintaining
multiple interfaces. Pharmacies can
enter transactions into MethCheck Rx
3 ways. The Web portal option attaches
a small scanner to a computer with
Internet access. All transaction information
is electronic. Scanning of the
Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic
Act (CMEA)-signature slip makes the
Web option CMEA compliant. The standalone
MethCheck Rx machine scans
UPCs, captures purchaser information
from driver's license 2D, 1D, or magnetic
strips. This option only requires a phone
line or network cable. MethCheck Rx
also can integrate with a pharmacy's
point-of-sale (POS) system. Using Web
services, MethCheck Rx can pass information
back and forth with a POS real
time to integrate into a cashier's or pharmacy
technician's normal workflow. For

D60PCV Provides Dual Functionality for Pharmacies
Pharmacy Automation Systems Inc's
(Largo, FL)
D60PCV is a patented system
that dispenses to both vials and punch
cards. It can automate a pharmacy's prescriptions
to vials and give them punch
card filling automation from the same
system. The D60PCV system will dispense
pills to vials at an approximate rate
of 240 a minute, or can fill two 31-day
punch cards a minute. The machine also
dispenses up to 60 different dry medications.
The D60PCV accommodates multicanister
dispenses, which allows a pharmacy
to have the same National Drug
Code (NDC) in more than one canister.
The system will go to the next canister
housing the same NDC when a canister
is empty and complete the script.
The D60PCV also can be replenished in
the middle of the script filling process.
With its small footprint, the automation
system features touch screen technology
and functions as a stand-alone unit
only requiring the pharmacy software's
specific bar-coded prescription label. For
