The Florida Department of Health has designated SupplyScape as the first certificate authority for Florida electronic drug pedigrees. The digital certificates increase drug security and lower cost throughout the drug supply chain, allowing trade partners to securely and automatically authenticate the pedigrees for their drug products.
The integrity and authentications of the drug supply and distribution channels have recently been put under a microscope. Electronically signed and validated pedigree documents translate to substantial cost and time savings for pharmacies, distributors, and manufacturers, versus the labor-intensive manual mechanisms.
Pharmaceutical supply chain members realize the immediate benefits of the RxCertificates services because they verify both the identity and the authority of the pedigree signatory. Florida mandates that these authorizations (the license to distribute within or into the state) be authenticated and validated in real time by the receiver of the pedigree. The digital certificates issued by RxCertificates can be used with any electronic pedigree system.
Drug distributors and pharmacies must confirm that each drug supplier has the proper license to distribute drugs. Without the benefit of Floridaapproved digital certificates, companies distributing pharmaceuticals are faced with manually confirming, or authenticating, the integrity of each drug's chain of custody back to the manufacturer. Then, the manufacturer is faced with servicing these manual authentication requests.
