PRESS RELEASEPLAINSBORO, N.J. (Dec. 1, 2016) — Founding partners of the Next-Generation Pharmacist® awards Parata Systems and Pharmacy Times®, the leading media resource for pharmacists and the pharmacy industry, are now accepting nominations for the 2017 awards program.

The Next-Generation Pharmacist® program recognizes pioneers, innovators and future generations of leaders, selected by their peers. Pharmacist nominations represent chain and independent pharmacies, institutions, long-term care facilities, health systems, and specialty pharmacies. For the past seven years, the Next-Generation Pharmacist® program has generated nearly 2,700 nominations across all 50 states.

“Next-Generation Pharmacist® is the industry’s leading national awards program, recognizing outstanding pharmacists, technicians, student pharmacists and industry advocates,” said DJ Dougherty, CEO, Parata Systems. “We encourage all pharmacy professionals to submit a nomination, and look forward to celebrating their achievements next August at our awards gala.”

The 2017 awards gala will be held on August 19, at the San Diego Zoo. This crowning event is an opportunity to offer accolades to award finalists for their leadership, passion, and commitment to an evolving health care industry. Finalists and category winners will receive their awards and be recognized by their peers for this exclusive and prestigious industry honor. One overall winner will be named the 2017 Next-Generation Pharmacist® and will be featured on the August 2017 cover of Pharmacy Times®. “As the leading voice in pharmacy, we are proud to partner with Parata Systems to convey the mission of the Next-Generation Pharmacist® awards,” said Brian Haug, president of Pharmacy and Healthcare Communications, LLC, which publishes Pharmacy Times®. “Each year, we have a tremendous opportunity to present these pharmacy leaders as shining examples of the best of what the pharmacy profession is all about. Their contributions are an undeniably important part of advancing our industry and, more importantly, advancing the wellness of patients in the face of modern healthcare realities.”

The 2017 Next-Generation Pharmacist® program includes 10 categories. Nominations may be submitted through March 31, 2017. An independent panel of esteemed judges, chaired by Pharmacy Times® editor-in-chief, Troy Trygstad, PharmD, PhD, MBA, will evaluate entries. Up to three finalists will be named in each category. These finalists will be featured in the June 2017 issue of Pharmacy Times® and on www.nextgenpharmacist.com.

“Pharmacists serve an important role as integral members of the healthcare team. As ‘Baby Boomers’ rapidly become ‘Senior Boomers,’ there is a corresponding need to help these people manage their health and medication related issues. Pharmacists’ roles and responsibilities will continue to advance in improving patient outcomes,” shared Lisa Tonrey, MHA, RPh, PhC, FAPhA, Capt. USPHS (ret), and the 2016 Next-Generation Pharmacist®. “The Next-Generation Pharmacist® awards recognize the unsung heroes of pharmacy—those outstanding individuals who serve patients and their communities, while inspiring others to excel in their accomplishments.”
