Fungal Disease Awareness Week: CDC Wants You to 'Think Fungus'

AUGUST 07, 2017
The CDC will host the first Fungal Disease Awareness Week from Aug. 14–18, 2017.

In a video posted on their YouTube page officials with the CDC encourage people to "think fungus" if they have symptoms that don't get better with treatment. The video discusses common types of nail fungus, ringworm, and other types of fungal infections.

On their website, CDC officials note that "increased awareness about fungal diseases is one of the most important ways we can improve early recognition and reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment."

In this Pharmacy Times video Mary M. Bridgeman, PharmD, discusses common contributors to nail and toe fungus.

Below, Bridgeman discusses preventive strategies to avoid future infection.
