2017 Technician of the Year Finalists

Sarah E. Causey, CPhT

Senior Certified Pharmacy Technician

Walgreens

Cragford, Alabama

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS

I feel my greatest accomplishment is helping my patients to afford their medication. By finding a co-pay assistant card or free trial offer or by working diligently to get a prior authorization, I will find a solution. This helps a great deal with medication adherence.

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

I became a pharmacy technician in order to help others.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

Treat every patient as you would treat your grandmother.

VISION FOR PHARMACY

I hope that pharmacists and technicians will increasingly take a more hands-on, personal approach to patient care.

Katie Forte, CPhT

Operations and Training Manager

The Ohio State University Medication Management Program

New Albany, Ohio

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS

Some of my greatest achievements in pharmacy came from my experience at CVS as its lead technician for 5 years. I had the opportunity to brighten someone’s day by taking the time to get to know my patients individually, and I took pride in making a difference and helping in whatever way I could. In my current role, I have helped to create our medication therapy management program here at the Ohio State University, overseeing our growth from only a few staff members to a team of about 150.

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

I entered the pharmacy profession because I always had a passion for helping others. In my career as a pharmacy technician, I have made a significant impact on patients over the past 10 years, and that continues daily. In my current role, I have the opportunity to help many pharmacy students learn to deliver great patient care.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

I love to be happy! A positive attitude goes a long way in any situation.

VISION FOR PHARMACY

I see the pharmacy profession going the route of what our program is doing—medication therapy management. We are making a huge impact on the lives of patients every day, and it is very rewarding.

Chasaty L. Greenlee, CPhT

Lead Pharmacy Technician

Mountain States Health Alliance (Johnson City Medical Center)

Johnson City, Tennessee

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS

I was 1 of 2 technicians chosen to work in our region’s only cancer center pharmacy. I was able to help develop policies and procedures to grow the cancer center and create an efficient workflow. It has grown from about 6 to 8 chemotherapy bags mixed each day to about 50 to 60!

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

I had been working as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and just trying to make ends meet. I was a single mother, and my primary focus was making a better life for my daughter. I loved being a CNA and being able to provide direct patient care and the opportunity to positively affect someone’s life. However, there was no growth as a CNA unless I went to nursing school, so I started to search for other options, and pharmacy caught my eye. I loved that there are so many growth opportunities within the pharmacy technician field and that I could still be involved in patient care. I remember starting my first pharmacy technician job 15 years ago and being in awe of how many different things I could learn. I committed to learning as many areas as possible so that I could better assist the pharmacists and provide the best patient care possible.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

I focus on fueling my life, sharing positive energy with others, and motivating by example. I want to lead the way for the technicians on our team.

VISION FOR PHARMACY

My vision for the pharmacy profession is to expand the growth within the technician world and for us to be more accountable within our roles.
