The National Association of Chain Drug Stores member Kerr Drug Inc and SureScripts were recent recipients of the Pinnacle Award. Kerr Drug received the award for its Clinical Services program (KDICS). SureScripts was honored for its participation in the creation of KatrinaHealth.org.
The KDICS team of clinical pharmacists who practice in Kerr Health Care Centers includes residency-trained pharmacists with advanced training and certification in preventive health care programs for such disease states as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
KatrinaHealth.org provided authorized pharmacists and physicians with on-line access to prescription medication records of individuals affected by last year's Gulf Coast hurricane. SureScripts worked closely with various chain pharmacies to pool medication history information for residents in the 192 affected zip codes into a central repository to help physicians and pharmacists coordinate care of their patients.
The Pinnacle Awards are sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association and are supported by a grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. The awards recognize the accomplishments of individuals, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and other agencies that have had a positive impact on the medication-use process and the delivery of appropriate medical care.
