Tips for Healthy Young Mouths

Did you know that many children spend less than a minute brushing their teeth?and that the 8 to 10 hours that children sleep give bacteria lots of time to feast on food particles left on the teeth and to produce enamel-eating acid? The following are simple tips to improve the oral health of children:

? Children should brush for 2 to 3 minutes after every meal

? Parents may want to use a timer to encourage children to spend adequate time cleaning their teeth

? Children should brush before they go to bed because it is the most important brushing of the day

? They should use only a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste

? Parents should ask the dentist about a fluoride varnish application
