Pharmacy Times Celebrates American Pharmacists Month

#ThankAPharmacist This October

PLAINSBORO, N.J.--October is American Pharmacists Month (APhM). Sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association, the goal of APhM is to draw attention to the pharmacy profession and generate recognition for pharmacists among their peers, patients and communities.

Pharmacists counsel patients 10 million times each day, serving as key players in the health care system. As the No. 1 print and online source for pharmacists, Pharmacy Times will take to social media throughout APhM to help honor and celebrate pharmacists everywhere.

Pharmacy Times is honored to participate in American Pharmacists Month this October,” said Ashley Hennessy Talamo, publisher of Pharmacy Times. “Our mission this month is to try and recognize all 290,780 pharmacists nationwide. As a leader in our industry, we want to encourage appreciation for those who do so much to assist and counsel patients on a daily basis in the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications, leading to healthier lives.”

Each October, APhM encourages consumers to “Know Your Medicine, Know Your Pharmacist,” highlighting the important role pharmacists play as they offer assistance with prescription and over-the-counter medication choices.

“Know Your Pharmacist” with Pharmacy Times #ThankAPharmacist

During October, Pharmacy Times will ask its followers to thank, recognize and celebrate pharmacists through social media with #ThankAPharmacist. Pharmacy Times will encourage followers to share an experience or photo that brings the value of the pharmacist to light.

By using #ThankAPharmacist and tagging @Pharmacy_Times, followers will have an opportunity to generate awareness and goodwill for their favorite pharmacists. Additionally, in its November issue, Pharmacy Times will feature a selection of 10 posts shared during APhM that best exemplify the value of the pharmacist.

This contest will take place on all three of Pharmacy Times’ social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Followers can submit stories through all three outlets to be considered for the top 10 selection.

Pharmacy Times will also feature a “Fact of the Day” social media post to highlight all that pharmacists do on a daily basis to keep their customers and community healthy.

“Know Your Medication” with the OTC Guide from Pharmacy Times and U.S. News & World Report

In today’s health care system, pharmacists serve as an informative source for consumers on both prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. Pharmacists have a responsibility to share this insight as medical risks increase with the number of medications taken by a patient.

In order to make pharmacist-quality information available to consumers, Pharmacy Times annually produces the OTC Guide in partnership with U.S. News & World Report.

The OTC Guide surveys thousands of pharmacists to determine the best pharmacist-recommended products and award the designation of “No. 1 Pharmacist Recommended” brand to medications in 116 categories.

“Today’s health care consumers depend on their pharmacists for guidance in managing their overall health while navigating today’s evolving health care system,” added Talamo. “Pharmacy Times is committed to recognizing the efforts of pharmacists everywhere by leveraging #ThankAPharmacist on social media. We invite patients, local communities and the pharmacy industry to join us as we celebrate pharmacists’ efforts and accomplishments all month long.”
