One fact to share with patients is that there is no magic solution or quick fix for losing weight, Jennifer L. Costello, PharmD, BCPS, BC-ADM, ambulatory care clinical pharmacist at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, advises.
Dr. Costello suggests reminding patients to focus on diet and lifestyle modifications as both a viable alternative to weight-loss medications or as an enhancement to the medication regimen. No single diet plan has been proven to be more effective than others, so patients should decide what works for them.
Dr. Costello also gives advice on how to respond to patients interested in herbal dietary supplements.
