‣ NCR Prescription Drop-Off Simplifies Rx Process
NCR Corp (Dayton, OH) recently
launched
NCR Prescription Drop-Off,
a self-service kiosk solution that makes
it simpler for retail pharmacy patients to
drop off and pay for prescriptions during
and after business hours. This multichannel
solution helps individuals avoid
lines and eliminate multiple trips to the
pharmacy by simplifying routine transactions.
New prescriptions are submitted
via the kiosk while refill requests can be
made via kiosk, phone, or Web. Once the
request is made, the patient receives
a bar-coded receipt, and the request is
forwarded to the pharmacist. When the
order is ready, an e-mail, phone, or text
alert is generated and sent directly to
the patient, who presents the bar-coded
receipt to the cashier or pays for the
prescription at the kiosk. Patients have
the option of printing information about
specific drugs or conditions at the kiosk
or requesting that this information be
sent to them as an e-mail. For more
information, visit
www.ncr.com, or call
800-CALL-NCR (800-225-5627).
‣ DIR Helps Patients Take Their Meds
HealthHonors' (Norwell, MA) technology
platform
Dynamic Intermittent
Reinforcement (DIR) delivers patients
the opportunity for immediate rewards
in the form of points, as determined by a
suite of complex behavioral algorithms.
AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP recently
implemented the technology platform
to help patients remember to take their
medicine as prescribed. HealthHonors
DIR technology harnesses principles
developed by behaviorist B. F. Skinner,
including the use of intermittent reinforcement
schedules, a linked behavior/
reward sequence, and education to
condition patients. The patient-centered
solution is convenient, simple, and fun,
resulting in increased utilization and
greater sustainability. The DIR technology
is fully automated, scalable, and easily
integrated into each client?fs front-end
consumer platform. For more information,

‣ RxSpec 700Z Detects Counterfeit Drugs
ASD Inc's (Boulder, CO)
RxSpec 700Z
is a portable counterfeit drug detection
system. The system can analyze any oral
solid dosage drug on the spot, regardless
of location. With a wavelength range of
350 to 2500 nm, the RxSpec 700Z not
only analyzes the active pharmaceutical
ingredient, but the entire chemical
compound as well. The result is a complete
?gfingerprint?h that either confirms
the authenticity or identifies the pill as
counterfeit. The RxSpec 700Z provides
true portability with AC/DC operation;
real-time results on the spot; nondestructive,
no sample preparation or waste; and
complete chemical analysis. The RxSpec
700Z works by lifting the lid and placing
the tablet on the analysis window. Touch
the icon that corresponds to the drug in
question on the touch-screen computer,
and within seconds, the system indicates
whether the product is genuine or counterfeit
using pass or fail indicators. For

‣ flexTRAX Offers FSA Solution
KeyCentrix Inc (Wichita, KS) and
Retail
Management Solutions (Olympia, WA)
have collaborated to develop a flexible
spending account (FSA) card processing
solution. The new company, flexTRAX
Solutions, provides independent pharmacies
with an alternative to a traditional
point of sale (POS) and enables
pharmacies to continue processing FSA
cards after January 1, 2009, when a new
IRS regulation becomes effective. The
flexTRAX system is an IIAS-compliant
system that enables pharmacies to continue
accepting FSA cards. Pharmacies
can use flexTRAX to ring up sales; verify
which items are FSA eligible; tender payments
by FSA card, credit/debit card,
cash, or check; and print receipts. The
flexTRAX application runs on a Windows
PC with minimal hardware and verifies
each item against the SIGIS Eligible Items
List; therefore, pharmacies must register
with SIGIS to use flexTRAX. The registration
also ensures that the pharmacy is
placed on the SIGIS Merchant List. For
