Medication Therapy Management at ONU
Katie Westgerdes, PharmD, pharmacist at the ONU Healthwise Pharmacy, discusses the medication therapy management at ONU Healthwise Pharmacy during the Cardinal Health Retail Business Conference on July 19, 2019.
Katie Westgerdes, PharmD: So at ONU we're a bit unique; we're actually under the umbrella of HealthWise, and HealthWise is a pharmacist-run preventative health service that the university has had for about ten years now. So most of our MTM or disease state management patients are actually on that part, that branch—so they're faculty and staff, they're students. So we actually have another pharmacist who is the director, and we have two pharmacy residents who mainly run those patient appointments. We have patient care rooms in the pharmacy, so when they come in for an appointment they check in at our check-in station and then they'll see a pharmacist in our patient care room to run through the appointment. We do work with local healthcare providers as well, to help manage disease states like diabetes, hypertension, et cetera.
