With the first few months of 2019 behind us, one of the signature events in the specialty space is on the horizon. The Asembia Specialty Pharmacy Summit is the largest annual event focused on specialty pharmacy. The program attendance grows significantly every year, and it now includes key opinion leaders from the investor community, technology, distribution, and myriad specialty arenas. This year, more than 6500 specialty stakeholders will attend, filling the Wynn and Encore hotels in Las Vegas to capacity. The growing portfolio of specialty products exceeds a value of $150 billion, and there will be more than 1200 organizations representing various interests that support those products.

In addition to a robust lineup of educational sessions, the continuing education (CE) opportunities will be second to none. For the full CE schedule, visit asembiasummit.com/agenda. Always a highlight of the summit, the conference expo this year will bring in more than 150 exhibitors from specialty pharmacies to pharma, service providers, and more. With so many offerings on and off the agenda, make sure you don’t miss anything. Make sure to pick up a copy of the Specialty Pharmacy Times® daily conference recap newsletter from several newsstands located throughout the conference area. Our editorial team will be covering some of the can’t-miss sessions during the summit to bring you the latest goings-on at Asembia.

Before you head out to Vegas, make sure to brush up on a few of the trending topics that will be in the spotlight at Asembia here in our March issue of Specialty Pharmacy Times®. In this issue on page 9, in his latest Viewpoints column, Ron Lanton will discuss the growth of drug importation at the state level, which is increasingly being viewed as a potential remedy to high drug costs. Also in this issue on page 7, our Editor-in-Chief Dan Steiber, RPh, explores the flood of infused specialty products into the market, which has moved these treatments into new practice settings that highlight the importance of specialty pharmacy services. On page 35, our colleagues from McKesson outline the regulatory and eligibility hurdles faced by 340B hospitals in securing and retaining discounts on key orphan and specialty drugs, and they provide guidance to secure access at discounted prices.

With the dynamic changes in health care and specialty pharmacy, stay ahead of the latest trends here in this journal and on our daily news website, specialtypharmacytimes.com. Follow us online, in print, and in our e-newsletters. And make sure to pay a visit to our booth at the Asembia summit to learn how you can get involved in helping shape the news in Specialty Pharmacy Times®.
