Educational Objectives:

After completing this continuing education program, the participant will be able to:

  • Review the characteristics of patients who intend to use or distribute opioids for nonmedical reasons.
  • Recognize effective strategies to communicate to patients regarding appropriate opioid medication use, storage, and disposal.
  • Discuss the risk factors that are associated with the highest rates of opioid overdose.
  • Outline how pharmacists can support the current REMS programs for ER/LA and TIRF opioid products and identify the tools available to prevent misuse, diversion, and abuse.
