ASTHMAMD

Developed by physician and researcher Sam Pejham, of University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, AsthmaMD is a free application that allows users to quickly and easily log their asthma activity, medications, and asthma triggers in a smartphone- based diary. Information from the diary, including graphical charts of asthma activities, can be shared with physicians and other care providers, and then incorporated into the patient’s medical record. The app is compatible with the AsthmaMD Peak Flow Meter, which gauges lung performance and is available at CVS Health, at Walgreens, and through Amazon.com. Patients have the option of sharing their data to allow researchers to garner insights into the causes and external correlations associated with asthma. After patients opt in to the data-sharing capability, the app sends encrypted and anonymous data to a Googlemanaged database. The data sent includes attack severity, triggers, and the time, date, and location of the attack.
