Indication: Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals will launch an authorized generic of Actos under an agreement with Actos manufacturer Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Pioglitazone hydrochloride tablets are an oral antidiabetic medication that decreases insulin resistance. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for the improvement of glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Thiazolidinediones, including pioglitazone hydrochloride tablets, carry a boxed warning against the risk of congestive heart failure in some patients.

Dosage Form: Tablets: 15, 30, and 45 mg

Clozapine, USP Orally Disintegrating Tablets

Indication: Teva Pharmaceuticals has introduced Clozapine, USP Orally Disintegrating Tablets, a generic alternative to FazaClo. It is for the management of severe schizophrenia in patients who have not responded to standard drug therapy. Because of the significant risk of agranulocytosis and seizures over time, patients in need of continued treatment with clozapine should be periodically reevaluated. It is contraindicated for patients with myeloproliferative disorders, uncontrolled epilepsy, paralytic ileus, or those with a history of drug-induced agranulocytosis or severe granulocytopenia.

Trifluridine Ophthalmic Solution 1%

Indication: Greenstone LLC will introduce a generic version of King Pharmaceuticals’ VIROPTIC solution for the treatment of primary keratoconjunctivitis and recurrent epithelial kerititis due to herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2. Trifluridine ophthalmic solution is also effective for treatment of epithelial keritisi that has not responded to topical idoxuridine or when ocular toxicity or hypersensitivity to idoxuridine has occurred. It is contraindicated for patients who develop a sensitivity reaction or chemical intolerance to trifluridine.

Metoprolol Succinate Extended-release Tablets

Indication: Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories launched Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release (ER) tablets, a generic version of blood pressure medication Toprol-XL. Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets became available in September 2012. The medication is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, and stable, symptomatic heart failure of ischemic, hypertensive, or cardiomyopathic origin. It is administered once daily, and dosing should be tailored to a patient’s needs. Tablets are available in bottle counts of 100 and 500.
