Today, we’re thanking Luke Morrison, MHA, operations manager at Gates Pharmacy in North Carolina. Morrison began planning early for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, and his forward thinking made Gates Pharmacy the first to implement changes in their town. Not only did this protect patients and staff, but it allowed them to implement changes slowly to allow the team and patients to adapt, according to Hayley Wood, PharmD, MBA, pharmacy manager at Gates Pharmacy.

In addition, Morrison set up a curbside pick-up system, isolated high-risk team members, communicated with patients about the changes, and assisted with workflow and deliveries when needed. Wood added that Morrison has been ordering lunch for the staff every day from a nearby restaurant to help support local small businesses.

“Our whole team deserves recognition for stepping up and out during this time,” Wood said. “I can’t say enough about the strength and dedication of my team to be there for our patients during this most difficult, unprecedented time. However, Luke is our backbone, motivator, cheerleader, and whole IT department!”

Pharmacy Times wants to celebrate the amazing pharmacy staff members who are on the front lines every day. Nominate someone in your pharmacy by emailing AAntrim@pharmacytimes.com with their name, position, and why they’re a hero!
