2019-09-12 19:00:00

Join Pharmacy Times® and your peers for an elegant, educational dinner from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, December 9, 2019, at the Aureole Las Vegas in the Mandalay Bay Hotel. We will be joined by expert faculty member, Billy-Clyde (BC) Childress, PharmD, MBA, MOL, BCACP, FASCP, Director of Pharmacy at Owensboro Health System, who will explore the following topics related to myxedema coma, levothyroxine and the role of the health-system pharmacist in patient care.

Goals of the presentation include:
•  Increased awareness of myxedema coma and the role of health-system pharmacist in supporting patients with this critical illness.

•  Identify the risks and complexity in levothyroxine preparations by reviewing the challenges in preparation workflow and exploring the unmet needs in the error-prone process, including waste reduction.

•  Increased awareness of medication preparation recommendations and risk-reduction strategies, such as independent verification and packaging changes, that may help prevent and reduce the frequency of errors, make errors visible, and mitigate the harm when errors occur. Review best practices for reducing potential risks and addressing challenges in the pharmacy workflow, and opportunities for alignment with organizations calling for ready-to-use formulations in this setting.

•  Explore a commercial product supporting the clinical workflow and identify opportunities for appropriate use of a ready-to-use levothyroxine.
