Podcasts offer students a great way to stay current on events and supplement learning from class.

1. Best Science (BS) Medicine Podcast

Since 2008, Michael Allan, MD, and James McCormack, PharmD, have been posting weekly evidence-based medicine podcasts as self proclaimed “medication mythbusters.” The overall philosophy of the podcast is to encourage clinicians to engage in shared, informed decision-making and critical thinking, as well as exercise “healthy skepticism” when it comes to medication use. To date, the duo has posted more than 250 podcasts on a vast array of drug- and disease-related topics.

2. HelixTalk

Designed by pharmacy faculty from Rosalind Franklin University College of Pharmacy, this biweekly podcast is geared towards supplementing study material for students. In particular, the podcast focuses on the top 200 drugs and discusses indications for use, counseling points, adverse effects, and other clinical pearls. In addition, HelixTalk features professional topics incorporating up-to-date guidelines and evidence-based medicine in an easy to follow manner.

3. The People’s Pharmacy®: Podcast

For more than 40 years, pharmacologist Joe Graedon and medical anthropologist Terry Graedon have been teaching, writing, and broadcasting information to help people make informed decisions about their health. Their award-winning radio show is heard by 200,000 listeners on 128 public radio stations nationwide. The radio segment can be found on their podcast, where they feature leading experts who discuss issues ranging from drugs, to herbal supplements, to home remedies, to vitamins. In addition, visitors share stories about adverse effects, drug interactions, and other medication complications that often have not yet reached the FDA.

4. Pharmacy Podcast Show

In 2009, Todd Eury, executive director of the Pharmacy Technology Resource, founded the Pharmacy Podcast Show and dedicated the programs to his pharmacy industry contacts, prospects, and customers. The podcast primarily focuses its programming on issues affecting the pharmacy profession, politics and advocacy, and changes in pharmacy technology. According to the website, the Pharmacy Podcast Show is “about dynamic people in the pharmacy industry making a difference for our profession.”

5. Medscape Pharmacists Podcast

This podcast features expert physicians, professors, and pharmacists discussing relevant topics affecting the profession of pharmacy. Additionally, Medscape provides more than 30 other speciality podcasts including cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, and many more.
