SinfoníaRx recently launched a new call center that will provide medication therapy management (MTM) services for the Spanish-speaking market.

Growing up in a predominately Spanish-speaking community, I saw firsthand how language barriers result in negative outcomes for patients. Once I became a health care professional, the need to bridge these gaps only grew more evident.

Previous research has shown that communication barriers between patients and health care providers can lead to adverse drug events and even medical errors.

Some may believe that language barriers are an issue in other countries and not an issue in the United States. On the contrary, the language diversity in the Unites States surpasses Europe’s.

Effective communication is difficult between patients and their health care providers when they do not speak the same language, and being unable to comprehend health information only complicates the situation.

Because of this, SinfoníaRx’s new call center and expanded MTM program are vital for improving patient outcomes, particularly in the Spanish-speaking population. The new call center is based out of the Phoenix area and called “Recetas come metas - compañeros en su salud,” or “Prescriptions with a goal - partners in your health”

Originally established in 2006 at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, SinfoníaRx has delivered MTM services to more than 2 million members since 2006. In 2015, SinfoníaRx’s Spanish MTM providers completed more 4000 comprehensive medication reviews.

Walmart pharmacies have been using SinfoníaRx's technology to improve patient outcomes since June 2015.
